UNIQUE
🌊
Emerald Cave (Tham Morakot) — Hidden Treasure
Emerald Cave is Koh Muk's jewel: an 80m tunnel swum in total darkness (or with fins/mask) that opens onto a secret beach surrounded by limestone cliffs. Accessible only at low tide and in calm weather. Kayak tours (300-400 THB) or speed boat trips include this stop. Bring a waterproof torch.
INCONTOURNABLE
🏝️
Sivalai Beach — Preserved Beach on Koh Muk
Sivalai Beach, on the island's north-east tip, is one of Thailand's most photogenic beaches with turquoise water and palm trees. Reachable on foot (20 min from Hat Farang) or by boat. Sivalai Beach Resort runs a restaurant open to all (dishes 150-300 THB). Ideal early in the morning.
AVENTURE
🐠
Snorkelling — Reefs Around Koh Muk & Koh Kradan
Coral reefs south of Koh Muk and around Koh Kradan (neighbouring island, 30 min by boat) are of excellent quality. Tours covering 3-4 islands (Koh Muk, Kradan, Ngai) cost 700-900 THB/person. Water visibility reaches 15-20m in peak season (November-April). Sea turtles frequently spotted.
🚤
Getting to Koh Muk — Ferry from Trang or Krabi
Ferries depart from Hat Yao (Trang coast, 45 min, 150-200 THB). Hat Yao is 30 minutes by minivan from Trang station (150 THB). From Krabi, boats link Koh Lanta to Koh Muk in peak season (600-800 THB). The island is small (30 min walk across) and quiet — no ATM, bring cash.

🌅
Sunset from Hat Farang — Main Beach
Hat Farang (Foreigners' Beach) is Koh Muk's main beach with cheap bungalows, restaurants and beach bars. The Andaman Sea sunset here is exceptional. Cocktails from 120 THB, Tiger beer 60-80 THB. The atmosphere is simple and authentic compared to Koh Lanta or Koh Phi Phi.
🌿
Fishing Village — Ban Koh Muk
The fishing village (east side of the island) is home to a traditional Malay Muslim community. The morning market (6am-8am) sells fish caught overnight. Village local restaurants serve fish curry and rice for 60-100 THB. 15 minutes' walk from Hat Farang via a path crossing the island.
AVENTURE
🚣
Kayaking to Emerald Cave & Sea Caves
Kayaking is the ideal way to discover Koh Muk's sea caves at your own pace. Kayaks hire for 150-200 THB/hour on Hat Farang. The Emerald Cave is 20 minutes' paddle from the beach. Several lesser-known small caves are accessible on the west coast. Set out in the morning to avoid speed boats.
🏕️
Accommodation on Koh Muk — Bungalows & Resorts
Accommodation ranges from simple bamboo bungalows (300-600 THB/night) on Hat Farang to Sivalai Beach Resort (3,200-6,000 THB/night, upscale). Koh Muk Riviera offers good value in the mid-range (1,200-2,000 THB). Book at least 2 weeks ahead December to March (absolute peak season).
