Appropriate dress and sarong required (available at entrance). 5 minutes' walk from the centre.

Kampong Ayer (28,000 residents) is a city on the water connected by 36 km of wooden walkways and water taxis (1 BND = 0.70 USD). The village has its own mosque, school, police post and clinic — all on stilts. Water taxi crossing from the main jetty costs 1 BND. Visit early morning for the best light.
